Have got a base build. Any improvement suggestions?

cpu: i5 4690 or 4690K (undecided - doubt I'll oc so leaning toward 4690)
cooler: noctua nh-u14s
mobo: asus z97-a
mem: corsair vengeance c9 1600mhz 16gb kit or similar g.skill kit
os drive: samsung 850 pro 256
storage drive: wd 1tb black (music and older games) may consider a second or larger ssd and keep to a single drive
gpu: asus 970 strix 4gb (open to sli alternatives - may consider 2x 970 strix but would likely need a bigger psu)
case: cooler master storm stryker
psu: corsair rm750 80 plus gold modular

Cheers!

With two 970's i don't think he will be playing solitaire.

970:
Graphics Card Power (W) 145w
Minimum System Power Requirement 500W.
x 2 =.
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000Watt 80Plus Gold.

For extra muscle's.

Spook I'm surprised you had to ask that question. Must be the VB...

I don't like the idea of a 1000w psu or multi gpu setups due to compatibility issues and definitely have a preference for a single gpu. I guess it's back to solitaire once I've installed win 3.11.

Edit: Rav I didn't see anything mentioned in reviews. Looking at the MSI Twin Frozr as well since it doesn't have the asus tax.

$'s a factor at all? You could drop the z97 if you don't want to overclock and stick with 1 decent GPU instead of going Sli.

get a 2TB HDD, you'll fill that 1TB up in no time.

Want to keep the z97. It has everything I want in terms of features and isn't that pricey.

The 1tb/2tb thing is quite interesting at the moment. 1tb cav black is $92 and the 2tb cav black is $189. Not sure why there is a $100 difference but there's no reason for me to go 2tb at that price. I won't fill it anyway with maybe 100gb of music and the few games I have installed at any one time. My laptop covers downloading duties since its considerably cheaper to run 24x7

If you have the budget for it I'd recommend a WD Raptor...

I'm running a 5+ year old 300GB Raptor atm and will definitely buy a 1TB Raptor for my next gaming build.
They are exxy, but this one has proven itself many times over for reliability over speed (tho still no slouch on speed).

My SSD has shat bricks a few times, and the fact that I've pointed all my userdata content at my WD Raptor has saved my skin on multiple occasions.

I wanna derail this thread and crap on about m-ITX builds but I think I'll start a new thread...

I had a 300gb raptor in my old PC. Can't fault them for reliability or speed even if they can't hold a candle to a ssd for actual throughput. For a gaming PC where I don't care whether the OS drive craps out though, it's just not a consideration. There's no substitute for backups.

It's because no one is buying them. Most people spend money on SSD storage for games and apps and then get whatever is cheapest for their porn collection or "mp3's" if you prefer to talk in code. You can get 3TB for under $130, you'd be mad to spend more money on a platter drive than you need to.

My system started to lag, blue screen and games began to micro stutter (W8.1) so i began the arduous process of dredging through reviews and bench marks for a new system and this is what i have decided to build, i would prefer 2011 unfortunately DDR 4 ram costs more than all the other components combined.

Mob. Gigabyte Z97XG7 .
CPU.Core i5 4690 .
Ram Kingston Hyperx beast.
Graphics. Gigabyte 960 mini x 2.

Total $1200.

Maybe get the 512GB evo instead of the 256GB pro SSD. The speed difference is negligible.

I'd get a gainward phantom over a strix card imo.
I've owned two previous phantom cards and so reliable and quiet.
