This is all speculative information across most of the Internet at the moment, but VGC cites numerous sources from within the development community who already allegedly have dev kits for a new Nintendo console.

According to the report and those sources, the new machine will essentially be a Switch 2.0 though it will launch with an LCD screen instead of an OLED (which seems odd given the most recent Nintendo Switch OLED model being the more up-to-date tech from within Ninty). This is to keep costs down, which does sound like Nintendo. As to what sort of architecture the new machine could sport, nothing was made clear but we would have to assume at least 4K when docked to a screen makes sense.

The report also alleges the new machine will retain the physical cartridge option for punters, likely more as a means to allow for backwards compatibility as the rest of the games market begins to shed that weight and go all digital.

The second half of 2024 is the suggested release window for the new console which could mean we might see it launch with Metroid Prime 4 as its killer app given Tears of the Kingdom is now out in the wild (heh), though an all-new Super Mario proper wouldn't be a stretch, nor the likes of a Super Smash Bros. or even Mario Kart 9 or similar.

We'll be keeping an ear out so stay tuned for more as it becomes available now that the proverbial Toad is out of the bag.
