As expected, Nintendo revealed the various global region release dates and pricing for their new HD Wii U console early this morning, and the Australian specifics were sent along in a follow-up press release from the European Nintendo Direct presentation.

Australian shelves will see Wii U consoles leaving them on November 30th 2012, surprisingly, only a couple of weeks after the November 18th North American launch, and rather amazingly, a week before the December 8th Japan launch.

Unfortunately pricing isn't as equivalent (but we're used to that right?), with the "Wii U Basic Pack" (white console with 8GB of internal storage) calling for a SRP of AU$349.95, and the "Wii U Premium Pack" (black console with 32GB storage, Nintendo Land game, console stand, and charging cradle) pegged at SRP AU$429.95 . Both packs promise included HDMI cable, and Nintendo felt it prudent to mention that AC adapters for both the console and the tablet-screened gamepad were included in the purchase price.

In contrast, the North American pricing has been set at US$299 for the Basic, and US$349 for the Premium.

A press release over at nintendo.com.au has the full details, including an overview on the console's launch titles.

Heck yes, now its time to pre-order the black edition. Can't wait for Monster Hunter 3 and Bayonetta.

It is because they have to use much higer quality HDMI cables in Australia. Because of our relatively low latitude location the data inside the cables slower so we need to include time altering Unobtanium in our HDMI cables. Hence the price difference. It is pretty obvious. It would be much worse if our AUD wasn't performing so strongly.

Christmas sales aren't that big a deal in Japan.

With the price difference and time lag is there any reason to not just get the US model? Especially for the "premium" version.

I may or may not be a Nintendo fanboy but I'm going to buy the s*** out of this regardless of whether it sucks or not.

Bayonetta 2 exclusive to Wii-U hey, thats a pretty big score.

Wheres the whole launch lineup though? They only mention 7 launch titles in that press release, is that the whole lineup? Because if so, thats incredibly piss poor.

This article reckons Reggie has 50 titles scheduled for the 'launch window' of pre-March.

Smells like they just want to get in before Chrissy.

It's not a launch lineup anymore, it's a launch 'window' Khel. SO yeah, I'm not expecting a huge amount of titles at launch.

I want to know when Zombiu is coming out!

If they really do have 50 games launching within a couple months though I'm fine with it, I haven't played ME3 yet so I'll probably Wii that and the family will get the Mario minigame thing.

That's already over $500, we wouldn't have the budget to throw down for many more games anyway.

Wii games work with it TiT, however GameCube games are not. Apparently they'll offer GameCube games in their virtual store.

For people who already own another console or two, there is no point to buying this until they release some decent exclusives.

Well, unless you want to try out the new pad-as-a-control thing, which the other consoles don't have, hey.

You know, the entire f*****g selling point of the console!

Premium includes Nintendo Land so if you were going to buy that then it pays for itself, and its black, cos black is cool yo.

Hopefully JB have a pretty good pre-order price, they usually do for new consoles. If I can get the premium for under $400, I'll most likely get one at launch.

Wii stuff works, GameCube stuff doesn't. This was mentioned way back at E3. What Nintendo haven't mentioned is whether Wii software will still run at 480p or if it the WiiU can boost the internal resolution up to 1080p. Hopefully they'll add GameCube games to Virtual Console library as well.

Its nothing like the iPhone 5. There's a completely different controller just for starters?!

I feel trolled. Also your post was kinda short thar pavey. Gotta beef em up matey ;)

EDIT: Haha I went to share this on FB. Nintendo Australia fail.

Maybe i'm just getting cynical in my old age, but this thing is seriously unimpressive at the minute. The only this is the controller and well... Meh.

i imagine it will sell well, not as good as the Wii, but i really couldn't care any less.

Until the games I want to play that utilise it come out it's a bit meh. By then it will be slightly cheaper and I'll have more game choice so maybe I'll get hard then.

Every time I see a nintendo ad on tv there's some grown man playing mario on a DS that gets bigger with every new release (the ds, not mario).

Let the dead and bloody corpse of the ever so beaten mario horse go already.

Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 were considered some of the finest games let alone Mario games of all time. I personally f*****g hate them but masochistic platformer fans f*****g loved them.

I thought meh, but after watching the full video I was sold. Just the multiplayer mini game things in Nintendo land or whatever it's called looked fun as. Thinking this is going to be a big hit when my brothers kids are over. Also love high quality 2d platformers. And being able to play some of those games without the tv was also pretty cool.
