It's a strange time we live in, where competing information and data and speculation now centres less around games overall, and more about which company is attempting to acquire which other company or dev or IP or... whatever.

The latest rumour suggests that Sony has eyes for an acquisition of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED, however, this has been steadfastly refuted by the studio itself.

From a report over at VGC, the rumours allegedly surfaced from a so-called 'leaker' who tends more to dabble in Destiny-related content, but as with these types of things, over the weekend it has grown legs. But in a timely situation, CDPR had an earnings call where president and CEO Adam Kiciński dismissed the rumours as just that while reiterating a stance the studio has had for some time now.

"I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years -– CD Projekt is not for sale," he said emphatically. "We want to remain independent. We have, I believe an excellent strategy. Not easy to execute, for sure, but it’s very exciting to follow our own path. So it’s a pure rumour."

If Sony managed to secure the mercurial developer, it would be a massive coup, but based on the above and how much the studio has on its plate alongside an invested stable of investors, it seems like it would take something to have it aligned singularly on one platform. But in this industry -- particularly right now -- never say never.
