Also, as per a new interview with Hermen Hulst - the Head of PlayStation Studios - around half of these will be new IPs. "New IP is incredibly important to us, new IP is the lifeblood of gaming," Hermen says. "I want PlayStation Studios to be fiercely daring, to take risks."

The wide-ranging interview up on the official PlayStation Blog covers a wide range of topics but also brings a few confirmations. Namely that a number of high-profile titles currently in development will be making their way to PlayStation 4 in addition to PlayStation 5. These being Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, and Gran Turismo 7.

With over 110 million PlayStation 4's out in the wild, its a decision that makes sense. Though it brings into question potential design constraints, as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's use of the PS5's fast SSD storage means that some of its mechanics would be impossible on the PS4 without stuttering or mid-action loading screens.

PlayStation Studios include some of the biggest names in the business -- Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica Studio, and more. During the PlayStation 4 generation we saw a focus on epic single-player games, and that's not going to change.

"Single-player, narrative-driven games — that’s our DNA," Hermen says. "PlayStation Studios have made, in my mind, some of the most memorable narrative experiences available. We love making them, and we’ll keep making them as long as gamers enjoy them."

In studio-specific news, we also got word that Team Asobi, the Tokyo-based PlayStation studio behind Astro Bot, is expanding. With the success of Astro’s Playroom here's hoping they're taking that little gem and expanding it into a full-sized platformer.
